India is a secular country where all religion practiced and they get equal respect among the people of India. Every festival celebrated religiously. Nowadays festivals are not all festivity and fun but they are big business involving hundreds of crore of rupees.
Big corporate are involved in this. They are putting lot of money in these functions in the form of advertizing, decoration etc. Corporate should contribute this money on developing infrastructure, companies can own / sponsor development of roads, public transport etc. It will give them much more mileage.
For example, Organisers in Mumbai estimate that Rs 1,200-1,400 crore worth of Ganpati-related business will be conducted this year, as far as state of Maharashtra is concern it would be much high. If half of this amount be utilize for farmers of Maharashtra where farmers commit suicide one can save many lives and it will help many poor. This money can be utilized for other social works like education of poor and deprive, marriages of poor man daughters etc.
Similarly other festivals like Durga Pooja, Garba etc are highly commercialized and huge money involved in these festivals. Humans are spending huge money in these festivals just to satisfy God but they are not realizing that God expect and accepts only prayer. God never want this materialistic thing like money etc.
In other religion like Christianity Mass arranged and huge publicity done for these functions and huge money spend on this activity. In Muslim community lot of money spend on the name of religious function and spiritual gatherings if this money utilized for the education of children, literacy rate can be improved and they can live healthy social life. Other religion like Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism, etc money spend in similar way if follower of these religions realize the importance of money and utilize in social activities, removing poverty, education, improving infrastructure etc and just offer prayer to their respective Gods their job is done.
